A Christmas Message from the Executive Director
By Patricia Cyr Watlington, CNP Executive Director
Although the people of Haiti have suffered unimaginable hardships, it is a community built on mutual support, a place where the people welcome you with open arms and heartfelt smiles. Haitians are resilient.
As we celebrate this Christmas Season, I feel especially humbled and honored to assume the role of Executive Director for the Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti, after having served as Interim Executive Director. This past year has been one of discovery and hope. I have watched in despair as the people of Haiti struggle through an historic era of inflation and unrest in their homeland. Yet, what I see - the moment I step off the plane - is a culture like no other. A culture full of love, loyalty, tradition, and dedication.
Although the people of Haiti have suffered unimaginable hardships, it is a community built on mutual support, a place where the people welcome you with open arms and heartfelt smiles. Haitians are resilient.
The Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti, known in Haiti as Kore Timoun, is persistent in its efforts. Our 50 Monitrices (Community teachers and educators) cross rivers and mountains to reach the children they screen for malnutrition. They are the Pillars of CNP.
With a new 3-Year Strategic Plan, we are building upon the legacy of CNP's founders and thinking boldly about strategies - not charity - that empower and educate communities to reverse the causes of malnutrition. We believe every child has the right to make it to his or her fifth birthday.
As you review or consider your end-of-year giving, please open your heart, and make your greatest gift which can change the course of a child's life. Your gift will be put to work, with focus and forethought, to save malnourished children, to give them a chance at life, and empower their families in Leogane.
Thank you for your prayers and for allowing God's light and love to shine through in all you do - it's making a difference in more ways than you know!
Christmas Blessings!
Patricia Cyr Watlington
